My Final Freedom Report

25 04 2009

My final Freedom Report aired this morning. I used it as an opportunity for a bit of a retrospective on the current state of liberty in America, my thoughts on what the future might hold, and ways each of us can be a part of the fight for freedom.

Here’s the link to the podcast.

And for a re-cap of all the previous weeks:

4/18 – Looked into the implications of a DHS report on “right-wing radical extremism”
4/4 – Revealed how Rep. Waxman’s tobacco bill unifies corporate welfare and the nanny state
3/28 – Focused on Sweden’s surprising refusal to bail out Saab
3/21 – Interviewed Radley Balko, senior editor with Reason magazine
2/28 – Talked about how “change” candidates have supplied the same old statism as before
2/21 – Explored assaults on freedom of speech in the Netherlands, the U.K., and India
2/14 – Interviewed Andrew Langer, president of the Institute for Liberty
2/7 – Looked at expansions in Britain’s domestic surveillance and its botched ID program
1/31 – Discussed the “Buy American” provision of the Stimulus Package
1/24 – Examined several worldwide freedom indices and if freedom increased in 2008

Hope everyone enjoyed listening to the segment as much as I enjoyed doing it. My thanks go out to Reina, Heather, and the rest of the Global Current staff, it’s been great and I’ll miss the show immensely.

The Freedom Report 4/18

17 04 2009

I’ve been an absolutely awful blogger this month. I apologize for that. In my defense I offer the following:

-My thesis is due within about two weeks or so.
-I’ve had three other papers to worry about as well (just handed one in today though)
-I got engaged over Easter weekend (Reina and I have started an engagement blog, check it out)

I promise that once I get school things sorted out a bit better I’ll be back to posting more regularly.

As for the Freedom Report, this week I’ll be discussing the Department of Homeland Security report suggesting that various political undesirables (limited government types, pro-lifers, anti-immigration advocates, etc.) are potential domestic terrorist threats.

Check it out tomorrow morning at 9:30 am on WSOU 89.5 or listen to the webstream here.

EDIT: Here’s the link to the podcast of this week’s show.

The Freedom Report

7 03 2009

Sorry kids, because of Seton Hall’s spring break the Global Current won’t be on this weekend or next weekend. To help tide you over though, I’m going to do a re-cap of all the Freedom Reports so far along with links to the respective podcasts.

01/24
In this week’s segment I looked at several indices of freedom around the world, and whether or not freedom was on the increase in 2008.

01/31
This week’s piece focused on the “Buy American” provision in the stimulus package and the potential it had to devastate trade freedom.

02/07
In this report I talked about expansions in Britain’s already pervasive domestic surveillance apparatus – and how the state managed to make a complete boondoggle of it.

02/14
I was lucky enough to interview Andrew Langer, president of the Institute for Liberty, for this week’s Freedom Report.

02/21
For this week I looked at assaults on freedom of speech and freedom of the press in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and India.

02/28
Last week the Freedom Report examined the troubling tendency of supposed change in politics turning out to be more of the same – policies that reduce freedom and leave people worse off.

Hopefully this’ll be enough to tide you all over until the show returns in two weeks.

The Freedom Report 2/21

21 02 2009

In this week’s Freedom Report I examined threats to free speech around the world, looking in particular at the Netherlands, the UK, and India.

It’s too late to listen live I’m afraid, but you can read the headlines and reports here and/or download the podcast from iTunes.

(Sorry for not posting this sooner, I’m in a production of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew and we opened yesterday so things were a bit hectic.)
