In my last post I wrote about Alexandria, VA’s efforts to destroy beer pong.
I’m sad to report this, but that effort has expanded. Maryland State Senator George Della has introduced legislation to outlaw beer pong specifically (and all other drinking games generally) in any Baltimore establishment that holds a liquor license.
Here’s the provision of the bill assaulting the good people of Baltimore’s right to toss ping pong balls into cups of beer:
A HOLDER OF A RETAIL ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES LICENSE OR
OWNER OR OPERATOR OF A BOTTLE CLUB MAY NOT PROMOTE, ENCOURAGE, OR
ALLOW ON THE PREMISES A GAME COMMONLY KNOWN AS BEER PONG OR ANY
OTHER GAME OR CONTEST THAT INVOLVES DRINKING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
OR THE AWARDING OF DRINKS OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES AS PRIZES.
I live in Maryland. I’ve been to Baltimore. I know there are bigger problems facing the city than some drinking games in bars.
Nice work Sen. Della. Way to be completely worthless.
HT Brian Griffiths.
UPDATE: I just found out that Sen. Della has withdrawn the bill. I guess he finally got some reason knocked into him by someone. Hopefully the Arlington County Board will come to the same realization.
